Indy Weekend

Chris and I left after work on Thursday and met up with Pete and Dane for the 20+ hour drive to Indianapolis to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The drive wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Even though it was 2o some odd hours, it never came close to the pain of driving to Buttocks, Tx. We stayed at my friend's apartment downtown only 4 miles from the track - on the downside, Dane's car got broken into. The Porsche Supercup and the Qualifying runs were awesome to see in person! I only wish we got to watch a real GP race - with all the cars.

The race on Sunday was a sad affair. 14 of the 20 cars pulled into their garage after the parade lap and only 6 cars ran the race. New rules and bad tires were to blame for the horrible race. There's an article on the Formula 1 Site that has the story.

Edit: So my roomie pointed me to an espn article where the columnist compares F1 to Nascar. That's like comparing Soccer to Football. Worldwide versus American... Hmm. It had something about if what happened in Indy happened at a Nascar race, people would riot. Well, duh. These are the same people that watch for the wrecks, drink cheap watered down beer, rip the sleeves off their t-shirts, and can only afford the front half of a haircut. That guy should take a hint when the rest of the world doesn't want to play along with your silly make-only-left-turn-ways. As the t-shirt says, Life's too short to go in circles.

And since we were right there, we walked around Downtown Indianapolis... streets were littered with Ferrari's Friday night, but I didn't bring my camera. No worries though, by the time we left on Sunday, I was Ferrari'd out. :-) Didn't believe that was possible. Chris got me a Ferrari checkered flag for a souvenir and he got himself a Porsche Supercup car - goodstuffs!
